As I Am Coconut Cowash, A Review

I read mixed reviews on As I Am Coconut Cowash and ignored every one that was negative and/or disliked the product.  Since I decided to go natural, cowashing using conditioner had been my method of washing my hair.  It was working, but hey, I’m a product junkie and wanted to try something new.  Quidad makes a curl cowash, but I wasn’t looking to spend that much, so I settled for As I Am Coconut Cowash.  I paid $7-$8 before tax and was ready for my next shower just to try this stuff.

I love the smell and wanted to love this product.  I really did, but I strongly dislike it.  The container says “A creamy, gentle no-suds moisturizing cleanser”.  It also boasts “Helps maintain moisture, add more moisture and retain moisture – vital to the health and happiness of your coils and curls”.

Let me just say I tried using this stuff twice and it was two times too many.  After washing with As I Am Coconut Cowash, I felt as if I had washed my hair with a harsh shampoo full of everything bad for my hair.  No, I’m not exaggerating.  My hair felt too clean, striped, dry, and pretty much the opposite of when I wash my hair with conditioner.  A lot of my hair broke off when using this too.

At about $8, this product is not worth it to me.  I have fine strands of 3C/4A hair and mine just can’t stand this stuff.

I won’t tell you not to try it, but be careful.  It gets outstanding reviews on Amazon (mostly).  We all like to try things and want to like these things, but some products are a total waste of money.

The saying goes ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.  Frankly, my method of cowashing with whatever conditioner tickles my fancy is working just fine.  My hair doesn’t dry out, feel striped, and break off.

Good luck!!

Givenchy Ange ou Démon Le Secret Elixir, A Review

Ange ou Démon Le Secret Elixir by Givenchy is by far the best fragrance I have come across in a long time.  The first time I bought it was thanks to a wonderful Macy’s saleswoman.  I was headed for the exit after buying what I went there for when I was stopped and asked if I wanted to smell this fragrance.  Being a product junkie, I said “sure”!  The rest is history.

I like my fragrances to last and smell like almost anything besides flowers.  I don’t know what it was about this fragrance, but I had never smelled anything like it.  I quickly hurried to the fragrance counter and purchased a gift set (that’s what they were pushing at the time) and went on my way.  The one thing I will never forget is that the woman offering the fragrance and the saleswoman said I would get a lot of compliments.  “Whatever” I said to myself.  It’s just another ploy to get me to buy it, however, it didn’t make sense because I had already purchased it.

Anyhoo, fast forward a year later and I’ve purchased a second bottle, the largest they sell at about 3.4oz.  I get compliments almost every time I wear it–random folks passing by, the grocery store, clothes shopping, product shopping, WHEREVER I go.  I don’t like a lot of attention, but if you smelled this stuff, you would know that it smells great!  A little goes a long way and for me, the fragrance lasts all day without a need to reapply.

I’m no good with describing smells, so here’s some information from the Sephora website:

Experience absolute sensuality with Ange ou Demon Le Secret Elixir. Like a precious gem, the fragrance has many facets. It opens with a glittering freshness evoked by luminous top notes. Sensual heart notes, including orange blossom, sambac jasmine, and frangipani, induce a sense of intense femininity and give way to a warm velvet-dressed base.

Notes:
Italian Lemon, Green Tea, Neroli, Orange Blossom, Sambac Jasmine, Frangipani, Atlas Cedar Wood, Patchouli, Musk, Vanilla.
Style:
Sensual. Glittering. Feminine.

Please note, I like strong, non-flowery smelling scents.  There is a lighter version of this fragrance called Ange ou Demon Le Secret.  It’s in a lighter colored bottle, has a lighter scent, and I don’t care for it.  The Macy’s saleswoman couldn’t have sold me a bottle of it.  I didn’t find anything special about it.  However, the Elixir version has me sold for life.  The next time you’re in a department store, try it out.  And hey, if you hate it, it can remain my best kept secret 🙂

P.S. The last time I purchased this fragrance, I found the best price on Amazon.  If you’re looking to buy this, research your prices before making a final decision.

Taliah Waajid Curl Sealer, Protective Mist Bodifier & Kinky, Wavy, Natural Herbal Comb Out , A Review

After seeing someone mention Taliah Waajid products on one of the forums I visit, I decided to give them a try.  Sally’s Beauty Supply seems to carry all or a lot of their products.  The week I bought them, there was a store coupon for a dollar off one.  What I didn’t notice is that I could only use one coupon per transaction, so I ended up getting one product for a dollar off and the rest were full price.  None of the products I chose were more than $7, so they were fairly inexpensive to begin with compared to what’s being sold.

Taliah Waajid Curl Sealer

TW Curl Sealer has a great scent and at first look, it looks like gel.  I applied the curl sealer to clean, dry hair.  The first time I used it, I used way to much for my fine hair and it left my hair feeling weighed down, but not greasy.  The next time I applied it, I used much less.  TW Curl Sealer helped define my curls and made them look refreshed.  In experimenting with this product, I found that it’s fairly good at holding down my 3C/4A hair.  Often times, I have a hard time finding a product that will hold my edges down when I want to create a sleek look.  This product definitely helped me with that issue and also helped my hair resist frizz.  With all the benefits this product provided my hair, the price, and the ease of finding it, I give this product 5 out of 5 stars.

Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier

I love this stuff.  For one, it does everything it claims to do and for two, it smells wonderful.  Smell is a big thing for me.  Once I decided to go natural, the thing I loved was being able to wash my hair as often as needed (with conditioner).  Since I smoke and it gets hot and humid where I live, cigarette smoke and sweat don’t make for great smelling hair.

TW Pritective Mist Bodifier makes finer detangling my hair a snap, helps with the moisture aspect and keeps my hair soft and smelling good, without weighing it down or leaving uncomfortable residue on my hair. It is wonderful as a water based leave-in and again, it’s not expensive at all.

Taliah Waajid Kinky, Wavy, Natural Herbal Comb Out

This stuff is the bomb!  I haven’t tried it on my hair, but I have used it on all four of my boys.  My favorite thing is that it does what it says it does.  Simple, huh?  I can’t ask for much more.  A product that fulfills its claims deserves an A+ in my book.

My two year old gives me a difficult time when it comes to combing his hair.  Wet or dry, I have to fight with him.  I put some of this in his hair and he actually sit still and let me comb his hair out.  I was surprised.  I tried the Soft & Beautiful Just for Me line and it just left his hair feeling greasy and didn’t help in the detangling department.  TW Kinky, Wavy, Natural Herbal Comb out makes my children’s hair soft and easy to detangle, plus it leaves a pleasant smell.

All three of the Taliah Waajid Products left me feeling satisfied that these products are a good addition to my normal hair routine.  As long as the formula doesn’t change up, they have a customer for life.  Try them out and let me know what you think!

Welcome!

Hello and thanks for stopping by.  My name is Jaye and yes, I am a product junkie.  I spend some of my spare time scouring for new products to try, looking for deals and coupons for said products, and gathering information.

Since I can remember, I’ve always loved trying new products…skin care, hair care, fragrance, and even food products as well.

I’ll be posting reviews on the products I try.  Maybe you’ll try them too or maybe you won’t.  Either way, I hope you’ll chime in and leave a comment.
